Earlier ancestors (Before 1900)

Some people are lucky to have information about ancestors from before the 1900s. In these cases, parents and grandparents may have pictures and information that have been passed down through the generations in their family. If the ancestor is famous, historians may have written about them and newspapers could have records of reports about them.

Thomas Tyldesly, a famous English Civil War officer  - Lizzie Tyldesly (4B)

It is exciting to know that Lizzie is related to a famous person from this important period of English history. 

The English Civil War from (1642 to 1651) started and ended in Nottingham, and there were several other important battles and events that happened locally, including a battle at Cotes Bridge (1641). The war was between people supporting King Charles I and Parliament. It ended with King Charles being executed and Oliver Cromwell leading the government.
