School Trip: Climate Change & Endangered Animals

For the Year 5 School Trip this year, we will be visiting Twycross Zoo as part of our topic on Climate Change. We will be learning and investigating the effects of climate change on certain animals.

As we have previously learnt, Climate Change affect us all. In addition, it is a huge threat to endangered animals. The PPT below explains this...

Activities for the trip

  • During the Y5 trip, you will be given an 'Endangered Species' booklet. Please put your name on the front of this booklet.
  • On the middle pages, you will find a map of Twycross Zoo with 6 locations/ animal species marked with a red dot.
  • When you reach the designated area at the zoo, you should read the relevant information in your 'Endangered Animals  Booklet.' This information will tell you about the animal's:
    •  Location in the wild
    • Habitat
    • Threats
    • Why they should be protected
    • Interesting facts
  • You should then also look carefully at the actual animal, its body parts, features, behaviour, and living environment at the zoo, to answer the questions about that species in your booklet.
  • You will be asked:
    • To imagine you are in that animal's natural wild environment and to describe it
    • To think about how the animal is suited to its habitat and environment
    • To look closely how the zoo-keepers have tried to re-create their natural environment in their enclosure
    • To think of some ideas about how we could help the species from becoming extinct in the wild
